Brisbane news live: Inner-city projects given ‘clarity’ from Games review | More rain threatens damp state | Man stabbed in CBD

With the Brisbane Arena on the backburner, shifted from Roma Street to a site near the Woolloongabba Cross River Rail station, urban development projects in both locations have been shaken up.
The Queensland Investment Corporation has four major renewal projects across Brisbane – slated for a mix of housing, retail, and office uses – at Albert Street, Boggo Road station, Roma Street, and Woolloongabba.

While a QIC spokesman said it had been “long understood” that Olympic plans would affect the latter two sites, the wait for a concrete venue plan, as well as Cross River Rail construction delays, left both projects in limbo.
“The Queensland government’s 2032 Games Delivery Plan provides certainty to our master planning and development of above-ground Cross River Rail Precincts,” the spokesman said.
“With the clarity provided by government, QIC can commence the precinct strategy and master planning process at Roma Street, [and] will continue to consult and work with government regarding the development of the Woolloongabba precinct.”
While construction had previously been expected to begin in 2026, QIC did not provide an updated timeline for the projects.
