Police working on a missing persons investigation have made the gruesome discovery of adult human remains buried in a backyard on Sydney’s north-western fringe, with three people now in custody.

Police were called to a home at Gleness Place in Glenorie about 11.30am on Friday as part of inquiries into a missing man, and located the human remains on arrival.

Police sources not authorised to speak publicly confirmed the remains were buried in the yard.

It is not clear how long the person had been missing. Two men and a woman have been arrested.

A crime scene has been established with numerous officers on the scene, including specialist detectives from the homicide squad and forensic technicians.

Police will address the media on Friday afternoon.
