So many Canadian columnists and journalists and those nonsensical political science academics are blowing a gasket at Donald Trump’s victory that one would think we are about to be overtaken by the Huns and Visigoths, and our comfortable life destroyed.

How dare those dastardly Americans vote in someone who is so obviously unfit for office?

This is outrageous!

Canada might lose its advantageous position with the U.S.!!

The world order will collapse!!!

Let’s examine just a few of these dire observations and predictions of our coddled progressive thought leaders.

An examination of history books would show them that U.S. Presidents have often been guilty of many illegal acts (most just did not get outed or caught). How many academics writing now are aware that Franklin D. Roosevelt, one of the greatest presidents of all time, the one who saved the world from the Nazis, directed the Internal Revenue Service to target and harass his political enemies and make their lives unbearable?

Trump has personality idiosyncrasies?

Lyndon B. Johnson, the president who bribed and beat up a recalcitrant Congress, for the most noble of reasons — in order to pass bold and dramatic civil rights legislation — regularly publicly exhibited body parts and functions. Behaviour that would not be tolerated even in a sports locker room today.

And world order?

The post-Second World War order is already collapsing and needs to be rebuilt — incumbents just cannot see that.

Canada might just be forced to build an armed forces that can actually fight — and that would not be a bad thing.

But more to the point, these outraged moralists still do not get it — Americans didn’t so much vote for Trump as vote against the Democrats and their elitist, out-of-touch policies and priorities. Are you listening Canadian progressives and socialists and Trudeau followers?

In a clear two-party system, as in the U.S., you vote for the only alternative if you want a change.

In this case — Trump.

This true story of U.S. government agents raiding Amish farms in Pennsylvania because those orderly, God-fearing farmers dare sell unpasteurized milk is illustrative of what is going wrong in America, and how Trump won. This community was simply practicing a traditional custom, which the overbearing bureaucracy tried to bring to a halt.

Result?

The entire Amish community organized itself to defeat those elitist, interfering Democrats by voting Trump. I am not aware of federal government raids on the multi-million-dollar Hollywood home of movie star Gwyneth Paltrow, another believer in unpasteurized milk.

Nope — just big government picking on the little people.

Americans want a government that focuses on the economy, on proper immigration, on maintaining a culture which rewards merit, and reduces bureaucratic interference in their lives.

American companies and institutions which focus on ESG (environmental, social, and governance) at the expense of making good products and creating well-paying jobs, or DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) to the exclusion of qualified job-seekers, are already dropping executives and advisers who slavishly follow these unfair and poorly thought-out woke practices.

The Democrats needed to be defeated in order to get the message.

So expect considerable change in our neighbour to the south — they wanted it, voted for it, and will get it.

And expect some mistakes along the way. That is just the way of the world.

That great democracy to the south has always been turbulent and raucous and quick to show its displeasure with the way things are going. It just doesn’t put up with bad ideas.

Let it figure it out.

In the meantime, let’s not show our ignorance by being so critical of the Trump victory — change in Canada will come soon.
