Major plan for 5,000 home garden village has consultation extended
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is seeking public input on proposals for a new residential-led garden village on the Dalton Barracks site.
The deadline for comments has been extended to Monday, January 6.
The public can provide their feedback on the website daltonbarracks.com through a ‘have your say’ section.
This includes an interactive map where residents can place comments specifically on each part of the site and surrounding area, as well as answer an online survey.
There is also the opportunity to sign up to a mailing list to keep up to date on the development of the masterplan and invitations to future community engagement events.

Robert Smith, deputy head of estates for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), said: “This consultation has been a great listening opportunity for the DIO.
“We have heard some interesting feedback and suggestions so far, and extending the stage one consultation ensures that we can gather as much feedback as possible from the community.
“We are committed to creating a development that reflects the needs and aspirations of local residents.”
The DIO recently hosted a series of eight public consultation events, as well as an engagement event with sixth formers at a local school between November 27 and December 6, to gather feedback.
This public consultation is the first in a comprehensive four stage consultation programme.
It is focused on gathering feedback on the vision and design principles for the site, as well as welcoming ideas and feedback on how it best fits within, and supports, the surrounding area.
The feedback gathered will help progress the DIO’s preparation of a comprehensive masterplan and develop an outline planning application for phase one.
It is anticipated the outline planning application will be ready for submission during 2026.
The redevelopment of Dalton Barracks would provide up to 5,250 new, high-quality homes, including affordable housing, new local services including primary schools and a site for a secondary school, leisure facilities, community facilities and employment opportunities.
The proposals also include extended and enhanced bus services to link the site to key facilities as well as a comprehensive network of cycle paths.
Phase one of the Dalton Barracks masterplan, which would deliver the first 2,750 new homes, has been identified for inclusion in the Vale of White Horse District Council and South Oxfordshire District Council Joint Local Plan 2041.
The former airfield is no longer required for military purposes and can be developed ahead of the main site’s closure.
