A “life-threatening” weekend assault is shrouded in mystery as police attempt to piece together events leading up to the incident.

A 52-year-old man was taken by friends to Logan Hospital late Sunday night with significant brain injuries, fading in and out of consciousness.

“His injuries are serious to say the least … they’re life-threatening,” inspector Chris Knight told reporters on Tuesday.

“I’m not going to pretend otherwise, there are many gaps in our knowledge of the incident.”

Investigators believe the man was assaulted on Rudyard Street in Richlands about 6.30pm, Sunday.

Multiple crime scenes between Hillcrest and Inala have been established and searched, with police saying he may have attended the addresses prior to being assaulted.

The victim’s vehicle – a 2014 dark grey Toyota Rav4 with rego plates 979LP2 – remains missing.

The SUV was last seen at a fast-food restaurant nearby between 6pm and 6:30pm the night of the assault.
