New Year’s Eve 2024 LIVE updates: Australia awaits Sydney fireworks display to ring in 2025

Many of Sydney’s best city fireworks viewing spots have filled up already, according to the council’s official New Year’s Eve website.
The City of Sydney’s SydNYE website showed eight of the prime viewing sites which are free to the public, including Mrs Macquaries Point, the Royal Botanic Garden, the Opera House and Circular Quay were full as of 3.30pm.

It showed spots were still available at Barangaroo and Darling Harbour, as well in other parts of the city, including Potts Point, which opens to the public at 4pm, and Lavender Bay, near North Sydney, which was almost full.
In Balmain East, all four free viewing spots still appeared to have availability, while locations in Rose Bay and Point Piper, some of which opened later, also had space.
Fireworks watchers at the Domain arrived as early as 1am this morning to grab a spot, while those arriving at Circular Quay after 2pm this afternoon were also able to secure a space relatively late.
