Notorious crime figure charged over alleged underworld murder plot
Sydney crime figure Omar Haouchar has been charged over an alleged plot to kill an underworld identity.
The 32-year-old was arrested on Thursday morning during a vehicle stop in Miranda, southern Sydney, over his alleged involvement in the plot to murder the 30-year-old man who police say is also linked to organised crime.
The killing was set to take place in the Sydney CBD in December 2023.
Police executed a search warrant at a home in the Sutherland Shire area, where items were seized, with Haouchar taken to Sutherland Police Station charged with conspire and agreed to murder any person.
He was refused bail and will face Sutherland Local Court on Thursday.
Haouchar is the sixth man to be arrested in relation to the alleged assassination plot under Strike Force Barralier. Five have already been charged and remain before the courts.
He is the brother of Bilal Haouchar, the alleged commander of a group police say is a billion-dollar syndicate running gun, drug, tobacco, and money between Lebanon and Australia.
More to come.
