Esme Bertelsen, the 23-year-old daughter of Susannah Constantine, has spoken candidly about her relationship with alcohol, revealing that she tends to binge drink.

In a recent episode of the ADHD Chatter Podcast on YouTube, Esme, an artist management specialist, shared that she drinks quickly and excessively when she’s out socialising, as it allows her to avoid thinking about what to do next, reports Gloucestershire Live.

She explained: “I like more binge drink because…I won’t drink in the week, really, because I know how it will affect me, but then when I go out drinking, I just…I always want to be like, you know, always up.”

Esme’s mother, Susannah, has been open about her own struggles with alcoholism, admitting on ITV’s Lorraine in 2022 that alcohol had a “control” over her. Esme’s comments offer a glimpse into her own drinking habits.

She said: “If I have one drink, and I’ll drink so fast and I’ll carry on drinking because then I won’t have to think about having control of what I’m doing next because if I’m having one pint, I’ll be like, ‘What, guys; what are we doing next?’ I have to know what I’m doing next.”

Esme added: “If then they go, ‘No, we’re going to go home’, then I’ll know that I’ll have to face… I’ll be sober enough that I’ll have to face the actual reality of like getting into bed and then thinking about things and my mind racing the whole time.

“If I’m so p*****, I can go to bed and I’m…asleep and my mind doesn’t wander at night. It’s just…yeah, it’s just like, ‘pff’, and I don’t have to think about anything. So maybe I do have a problem.”

Susannah, who rose to fame as one half of the style duo Trinny and Susannah, previously confided in Lorraine Kelly about a mishap she experienced in Cornwall.

After having a few drinks, the fashion guru stumbled and suffered a break of two “traverse processes” in her back.

The day after the incident, Susannah courageously faced a group of people, admitting her struggles with alcohol, as reported by the Express. In 2020, she disclosed that she had been on the path to recovery for seven years.

Penning her thoughts in the Daily Mail, she expressed: “After years of waking up filled with shame and guilt and asking God for the four horsemen to take me away and not bring me back, I knew it was time. Drinking had ceased to be fun. I had ceased to be fun. I was no longer in control, it was controlling me.”
