Carriers kicked off early Black Friday deals this week, plus pre-holiday layoffs and more. Here’s the telecom news you need to know:
Pricing and deals
Fizz’s early Black Friday deals offer a discounted plan if you buy a Pixel 9.
Rogers offered some customers $40/100GB and $65/190GB plans. Later, it also offered some customers a $60/180GB plan.
Rogers and Fido offered customers with old phones no-cost upgrades ahead of next year’s 3G network shutdown.
Videotron added 28 more destinations to its $75/45GB international plan.
Rogers offered a $55/120GB 5G migration plan to Fido customers.
Telus offered a $24/60GB 5G migration plan to some Public Mobile customers.
Telus tempted Koodo customers with $60/150GB and $65/200GB Canada/U.S./Mexico/Caribbean plans.
Several providers are offering free or heavily discounted Pixel 9 phones.
Rogers rolled out its Black Friday sales.
Fido launched Black Friday sales.
Chatr has a $29/25GB Black Friday plan.
Regulatory
The Big Three responded to the CRTC’s call for lowering roaming rates by claiming they already offer affordable roaming. Then, the carriers promised to introduce measures to lower roaming even more next year.
Layoffs
Bell employees warned of pre-holiday layoffs on social media. Bell said the layoffs are a “continuation” of earlier restructuring.
