Nofoala Sandy Lameko, 34, a former X Factor New Zealand contestant, has been sentenced for supervision by the Auckland District Court after spending nearly six months in jail. The musician assaulted his partner in 2024, by slamming her head against the wall.

The assault happened after an argument. Lameko pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by a male on a female, both of which are punishable up to two years of imprisonment.

There were two incidents of assault by Lameko, one in February 2023 and the second three months later in May. The first incident occurred after an argument arose over his ex-girlfriend. He later hid his girlfriend’s house keys, which made her call the police.

According to the case details, Lameko hit her and pushed her to the ground, injuring her back, while she was on the phone. The call, which was on from 11:45 pm to 1 am, showed evidence of Lameko threatening to hit her multiple times.

Lameko’s girlfriend separated from the musician, after he assaulted the woman again three months later as she refused to sit with him on the dinner table. He then later proceeded to forcefully grab her wrists and walk her to the bedroom. He then slammed her head against the wall, multiple times, making her fall to the ground.

He has already served 174 days in custody and has completed an anger management course. Lameko has also spent four months in electronically monitored bail. Judge Belinda Sellars noted that the case was moderately serious but Lamenko had served significant time in custody.Lameko, has been sentenced to 12 months supervision and needs to attend any other courses as part of his probation and will not be allowed to associate with the victim.Lameko’s music career got a boost in 2015 after he reached the top 12 spot in X factor NZ’s second and last season.
